A trip to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands through a designer's eyes... The tourist industry accounts for so much of the commerce that it seems the locals have been overlooked.
There are approximately 3 blocks in St Thomas dedicated to shopping. These are the tourist traps, the duty-free shops, the cruise ship lighthouses. The area is so densely packed that signs are hung 10 or 12 deep in places. Designers names and logos overwhelm.
Some signs were just too foreign and cute to resist taking a snapshot of.
The Virgin Islands present a unique blend of various cultures, but I don't know if blending driving on the left side of the street with the driver on the left side of the automobile is the greatest blend of two worlds. Riding in the passanger seat is terrifying... just hope the driver has a good sense of how wide the car is.
If I had been the one driving, I would have crashed the car. I have never before seen such a complete and utter lack of advertising.
